Combine a polo holiday in Africa with an unforgettable Kenyan adventure at LONGONOT RANCH HOUSE.
Adventures in the Great Rift Valley and an encounter with the MASAI!
Lake Naivasha - Great Rift Valley
Deep in the heart of the Great Rift Valley lies a dormant volcano, Mt
Longonot (9,111ft above sea level), it¹s name derived from the Masai word
O-Loo-Nong¹ot meaning OEof the valleys¹. Straddling the slopes of Longonot
and bordering Hell¹s Gate National Park to the west (which a million years
ago formed the dramatic outflow of fresh water from lake Naivasha) lies a
private ranch of 80,000 acres, only 80kms from the teeming metropolis of
Nairobi, the capital city of Kenya.
This vast area offers variety, from open plains to deep and breathtaking
gorges, from rocky lava flows to Euphorbia outcrops, lending itself to
walking and horse riding safaris in the true pioneering spirit. Traveling
in this way you are on even terms with the game - a unique and wonderful
experience. Amongst the many species of game which roam freely over this
area, as they have since time immemorial, are eland, giraffe, zebra,
impala, Thomson¹s and Grant¹s gazelle and kongoni. Buffalo are also found
on the Ranch, as well as cheetah, leopard, Civet and Genet cats, Aardvark,
hyena, jackal, springhare and Bat eared fox.
The Ranch House, with stunning views of Hell¹s Gate gorge and the Aberdare
mountain range, is situated at 7,000ft above sea level and looks out over
rolling plains to Lake Naivasha where approximately 475 different species
of bird make their home.
This colonial style ranch house is managed and operated as a home stay
lodge by Safaris Unlimited (Africa) Ltd. Longonot Ranch House is ideally
situated for day trips to Lake Nakuru National Park, Mt Suswa caves, the
Aberdare Range and Lake Naivasha, well known for its bird life, black bass
fishing and water sports.
Morning and afternoon escorted rides are offered from the stables at the
Ranch House. Alternatively, you can ride out all day with a picnic lunch.
Riding is only available for those booking into the Ranch House for an
overnight stay. With adequate notice, two and three day riding safaris can
be arranged from Longonot Ranch House.
The Ranch House has six double en-suite bedrooms, (comprising 4 twin
bedded and two double bedded), a honeymoon suite and a bedroom for
children - all with spectacular views of the Rift Valley and surrounding
mountains. The House is fully furnished with a full complement of house
staff including a chef, stewards, gardeners, grooms and a night watchman.
